I thought I would try something a little different with this Chronophotography sequence that I took last week. A Long Crested Eagle had been perching beyond the trees in the old orchard on our plot in Hogsback and eventually settled on a branch just behind the trunk of a dead eucalyptus tree. In spite of the unwanted attentions – that he ignored – of a mob of Drongos he stayed put for the best part of an hour. That was a long time for me to be waiting with the camera focussed on him ready for take-off! Eventually he stirred and took off giving me a lovely sequence of around 10 images. I’ve been able to use eight of them in this sequence and I increased the fading I gave each of them as he flew away from his perch.
I like this edit, it shows the transience of flight, and I am pretty sure that it will be printed for exhibiting at the Orchard Gallery later this year. There’s a high resolution version of the image in my portfolio page: Lockdown Sunbirds (and friends).
